Case Study: Linda G

Linda is a 62 year old female admitted to acute
rehabilitation with a right occipital CVA. Prior to her stroke she was independent with her basic ADL’s and mobility without an assistive device. She was living with her husband and shared the cooking and cleaning responsibilities in the home. She was independent with driving. She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren.
During her initial evaluation in acute rehabilitation, she demonstrated deficits in the following areas:
Left hemiparesis, decreased balance (patient would fall to left when seated upright unsupported), dysarthria, dysphasia, Left visual field cut and mild cognitive deficits in the areas of executive functioning.
She required the following level of assistance for her ADL’s during the initial evaluation:
Self-feeding: Minimal Assistance
Grooming: Minimal Assistance
Lower Body Dressing: Total Assistance
Upper Body Dressing: Total Assistance
Bathing: Moderate Assistance
Toilet Transfer: Maximal Assist Squat Pivot Transfer
Her stated goal is to “Get around the house and go to the bathroom on my own.”
