For this assessment you are required to write a 2500 word essay critically analysing one of the following statements:
• Comparing criminal justice systems can teach us about the purpose of ‘criminal justice’ around the world. • Whilst the differences between the civil and common legal traditions are significant, they also possess underlying similarities. • Politics and/or religion are sometimes so entrenched in a culture that it makes it difficult to compare with other criminal justice systems. • Some nations have similar justice systems but vastly different attitudes to policing, conducting criminal trials or implementing criminal punishments. • Japan has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. While there are clear benefits to this there have also been costs in achieving this success.
