1. Identify and discuss the literature for 3 topics from:
a. Layout and Queueing
b. Capacity
c. Location
d. Inventory
e. Managing Quality
f. Supply Chain Management.
2. Describe the application of your 3 topics to your own case.
The deadline for the second assessed assignment is 2359 on Sunday 26 April 2015. Your assignment is to be submitted (one file only) through the module’s Blackboard site. For the avoidance of doubt, paper submissions or submissions by email are not accepted and a mark of zero will be recorded. The expected word count (not including the references section, etc) is around 2,500 words (about 1,250 words for Part 1 and 1,250 words for Part 2). The absolute maximum word limit (including everything, references etc) is 3,000 words.
Criteria for Marking Assignments
Assessing assignments is not a mechanical process, but a judgement that can use features of the work to associate it with a particular classification but those features are general pointers and do not constitute a rigid checklist.
A submission that does not address the task or meet the submission requirements (e.g. word count) will receive a notional mark (~5%). Failure to submit by the deadline will receive a mark of zero.
The features of a First Class (>70%) assignment may include:
? Responds to the question directly and fully
? Demonstrates exceptional understanding and knowledge of a wide range of theoretical models and applies them appropriately.
? Offers an original or innovative argument or perspective
? Appreciates the holistic nature of business behaviour
? Is highly adept and in deploying concepts.
? Is written with flair, style and technical precision using the Harvard referencing system correctly.
The features of an Upper Second Class (60% – 69%) assignment may include:
? responds directly to the question
? has a clear and convincing argument
? is aware of issues involved in the question
? blends conceptual awareness with reference to texts or appropriate examples
? is coherently organised
? contains discussion and analysis rather than description or narration
? applies appropriate models
? is properly referenced
? is fluently written
The features of a Lower Second Class (50% – 59%) assignment may include:
? contains the main points and arguments but those are not fully developed or articulated or the organisation is not coherent
? attempts the application of models
? is thorough enough, but does not show much evidence of engagement with concepts or material beyond what is fundamentally required or what has been given in lectures and seminars
? work in this classification is considered good work, though not as inventive or wide-ranging as work in the Upper Second Class
The features of a Third Class (40% – 49%) assignment may include:
? descriptive rather than analytic work
? does not attempt the application of models
? covers the basics but without real argument or conceptual insight
? generalised rather than specific attention to the question
? adequate but modest writing and presentation, referencing practice is inconsistent
The features of a Borderline Fail (35% – 39%) assignment may include:
? does not cover adequate ground in response to the question
? is muddled in organisation
? is poorly written and organised, does not use a referencing system
? has some grasp of what is demanded, but does not indicate understanding of the issue involved
The features of a Significant Fail (<35%) assignment may include:
? does not know the material or understand the demands of the question
? some attempt to answer the question may mean that some marks can be given.
