The past, present and future of sports

ASSIGNMENT DETAILS The second piece of assessment for this unit consists of three main parts – the past, present and future of sport. Each of these parts and their requirements are outlined below: Part 1: The Past (Defining Sport) (1000 words approximately) What is sport? This question may seem elementary. The purpose of the first part of this assessment task is to review relevant definitions of sportand build a definition that you can justify and apply to the evolution of the sport industry, and the evolution of the management of it. You will need to provide an overview of previous definitions of sport and compare and critique these definitions. Your proposed definition of sport should emerge from this analysis and be justified based on your reviews of previous definitions of sport. Part 2: The Present (Typologies of Sport) (2500 words approximately) Is sport an industry? Is there such a thing as a sport industry? Based on your review of the definitions of sport, and your own definition, which sports belong to the industry, and which do not? You will need to build a typology (conceptual classification system) of the sport industry. Your typology should be linked to your own definition of sport and be able to classify and segment the various components of the sport industry. You need to ensure that your discussion includes what classification criteriawas utilised and the justification for determining your typology. it can (amongst other things) calculate the worth of sport to the economy. It has used 2 different typologies (classification systems) to do this.
