Data analysis;federal government proposes a new regulation or issues a related document
When an entity of the U.S. federal government proposes a new regulation or issues a related document, the proposal or related document published by the federal
government is open for public comment. Using regulations.gov, the database of open and closed regulatory issue documents, draft a comment in response to an open
notice, proposed rule, or rule of your choice that involves air quality and human health. Your comment must include: a statement of your explicit agreement or
disagreement with the regulatory issue; three supporting points for your agreement/disagreement; and citations from three online databases.
Example ONLY: The Agency for Toxic Substances and Diseases Registry (ATSDR) has updated its Substance Priority List (SPL), the ranked list of substances commonly found
at facilities on the National Priority List (NPL) that pose a threat to human health. Substances on this list are all candidates to be the subject of a toxicological
profile prepared by the ATSDR, and ATSDR is currently requesting nominations for toxicological profiles. Using the Agency for Toxic Substances and Diseases Registry’s
website, you could chose one hazardous substance from the SPL that is known to have a detrimental effect on air quality and, subsequently, human health (from the ATSDR
Toxic Substances Portal, you can search for a hazardous substance as organized by the Health Effects of Exposure to Toxic Substances or by Chemical Classifications).
Then, you could search for the request for nominations for toxicological profiles that is open for comment on regulations.gov, and nominate a substance, citing three
reasons that substance should be the subject of a toxicological profile.
