Order Description

This order will be for a Thesis paper on the poem “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes.

The thesis should only contain: Introduction ending in Thesis Statement, 3 Points in 3 body paragraphs and Conclusion. All in PEEL format and the phrasing for Thesis Statement and Points sentences should be followed.

Focus: Author’s craft / use of all devices (see list) to bring about “the one” Theme.

1. Introduction (not more than 8 sentences)
a. should contain the title, name of the poem
b. brief summary leading to Thesis statement
c. the poem’s theme
d. the theme’s relevance or significance today
e. ending in the interpretation of the Theme or the Thesis Statement or the main argument / claim

2. Thesis statement (ends the Introduction)
a. should be a deeper interpretation of the theme (not the theme itself)
b. format: Through the use of (Point 1 Literary Devices) (Point 2 Literary Devices) (Point 3
Literary Devices) Plath… + main claim or the argument.

3. 3 Points of Argument supporting or arguing your Thesis Statement
a. 1 point for 1 paragraph, for a total of 3 body paragraphs
b. format: Through the use of (Point 1 literary devices) Plath + 1st point arguing your Thesis Statement
c. Use similar format for the next two points

4. Evidences supporting your Point
a. 3-4 Evidences (poem lines, supporting literary devices (see literary devices list) are needed for each
individual Point.

5. Explanation supporting your Evidence
a. analysis (implication, connotation), explication, and interpretation of the literary devices. (see paper
instruction clarification below)
b. pls. see sample analysis uploaded. It doesn’t follow the PEEL format and the required phrasing of the
Thesis Statement and 3 Points, but it gives an idea how analysis and explication of the Evidences (#4
above) should be done
c. Analysis should strictly be in PEEL Format (Point, Evidence, Explain and Link).

6. Link
a. connect 1 point (paragraph) to the next for the argument to be persuasive and cohesive.

* pls. ensure the paper will pass Turnitin.com–words, phrases and ideas and interpretation need to be restructured. Use of the same word and phrases and exactly the same evidences is not allowed.

Paper instruction clarification:

The assessment is based on how well the student understands how literary devices are used. Focus on interpreting how the author used literary devices (see list, Tools) to create meaning and message in Poetry, as seen in the required format for Thesis Statement (interpretation of the Theme) and of the 3 Points’ sentences (only 3 body paragraphs) that would most support/argue your Thesis Statement.

Do not include much psychoanalysis. In other words, the assessment is about the use of language in poetry (technical) NOT on the psychoanalysis of this poem (which is only incidental to assess the quarter’s lesson.)

Please consider your Thesis depending on the following:

1. whether your Thesis Statement captures the interpretation of that “one”-most important Theme

2. whether you can provide and explicate (not identify) the literary devices to support your Points.
Because explicating the literary devices used and the author’s craft is paramount,
please do not sacrifice literary devices for intelligent Points. (as long as the points logically
support the Thesis S., simple psycho is ok).
