Policy Memo

Students should write a 2-3 page, single-spaced policy memo on an ongoing event or issue in international relations. The tight page limit is important to the assignment, and students must make their arguments clearly and concisely.
1) explain the origins and nature of the issue/problem,

2) offer a viable and likely effective policy response for one or more actors,

3) explain why this policy response should succeed, and

4) explain why it is preferable to other policy solutions that have been proposed elsewhere.

Students must select an important policy issue in international politics and draft a policy memo framing the problem and suggesting a course of action for some specific actor. The memo is due at the end of Week 7, and students will present a brief synopsis of their policy memo to the week’s discussion thread. You should feel free to give your thoughts and feedback on one another’s posts here.
