Assignment Two – The Outline:
This assignment is credit/no credit. After completing your research and reading about key concepts of governmental structures, the Constitution, and federalism you are now able to develop the outline of the new constitution. Before continuing, take a few minutes to review several different counties give you ideas for the new constitution. Note: You cannot just copy the United States? Constitution or any other countries?. You must develop your own outline.
Some of you are asking yourself, how your AB assignment can be turned into a larger project. Please note the purpose of the AB was to get you thinking about how government impacts your life and to partially fulfill the research component of the class. The second assignment is separate from the AB, in that you are to write an outline designed for a burgeoning new government. The way the AB ties in is if your issue is something you would like to address in your new constitution, then it can be built into the constitution, but not be the only issue covered. To get started on the new constitution, you should ask yourself a series of questions based on who, what, when, where, and how.
1. Who should government represent and why?
2. What type of government should we have?
3. What rights and freedoms should the citizens have?
4. Where and when should elections be held?
5. Where and when should the government meet?
6. How should the government work?
Based on these few questions, you can see a constitution emerging ? purpose (who should it represent, i.e., the preamble), structure (is it a republic, monarchy, theocracy? Are the officials elected? What position will be created?), and rights and freedoms (do we need to expand our rights? If so, how should be they be expanded or what types should be given and to whom?); Note how many more questions have emerged.
