Poverty and place

mile Durkheim theorized that we inherit our social blessings and tragedies. Place matters and, certainly, individual responsibility is important. What is the power of social location? In American culture, the poor are often blamed for their status and subsequent social troubles. To help make this discussion more concrete, conduct some research in your local community about the poverty rate for the most recent calendar year. What are the variables discussed? How does your local news media discuss poverty? How does poverty create challenges in healthcare, education, and housing for your community? What is your opinion?
