Program Evaluation Critique
Answer the following questions about the article/evaluation:
a. What is the main question/purpose of the evaluation? Is it clearly stated?
a. What past literature to set up the evaluation? Does their past literature help their evaluation?
b. Do they clearly lay out the program theory/logic model?
c. What methods do they use to study their evaluation question(s)? Also, critique each part of the analysis. Was it adequate? Should the authors have done more? What would you do instead?
i. How did the authors gather information/data for their analysis (focus groups, interview, survey, observation, etc…)?
ii. What was their research design (pre/post test, post test only, etc…) and did they use a control or comparison group?
iii. What type of methods did the authors use (quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods?
iv. What type of analysis did the authors use (regression, correlation, etc…)?
d. What are the findings of the analysis? Do the findings point back to the original question? What is lacking in their findings?
e. Overall, what do you think about the evaluation? What do you like/dislike about it? What would you recommend for similar evaluations in the future? This is the most important part of the evaluation critique so make sure you spend some time on this.
