project management

project management

Order Description

• Task: 450 – 700 words
Task 1: (about 300 – 500 words) – 5% (5 marks)
In the subject forum, post a commentary, including examples, that:
1. Defines what a project is and how project selection and strategy might/might not interact in an organisation.
2. Discusses how managing projects compares with managing day-to-day work.
3. Discusses how does organisational culture impact project implementation and vice-versa?
4. Describes one aspect of project management (e.g. planning, risk management, monitoring progress), its importance and how it impacts projects and organisations (i.e.

relative to 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 above).

Note: other topics will be suggested by your lecturer in response to original posts and students are encouraged to use those topics for original and reply posts.
Posts need to be original and thoughtful commentaries and should include examples, ideally drawn from your own workplace*, organisational or student project

experience. They should reflect ideas and interpretations of the theory – which may be from personal experience – NOT simply restating the text or other source

definitions.
As the topic “unfolds” in the forum, based on lecturer feedback and suggestions, original posts may also adjust to cover other project topics in context.
Responses have to be original and copies of other student posts are not acceptable.
* Posts should reflect appropriate ethics and commercial confidences. Refer to CSU ethics policy.
Task 2: (about 150 – 200 words. It is important that your response be more than a “one-liner” to be regarded as a second post) – 5% (5 marks)
In the subject forum, post a constructive question or commentary on another student’s post. The idea is to encourage review and critique of submissions, highlight

creative ideas, explore topics more widely and challenge fellow students (and your lecturer) to a wider “plane of thought” regarding how projects are defined and

implemented.
Ideally your submissions contribute to a meaningful conversation about projects and experiences. They would also provide links to and examples of workplace learning

and practice.
Note: This is intended as an “all or nothing” mark. Two meaningful posts. Your lecturer will comment on your original post and may also comment on second posts, but

the expectation is for students to add value for other students through this second task.
Both posts must be made before the due date. Any late posts, or missing posts, on either tasks 1.1 and/or 1.2 will also result is no marks being awarded for that task.
Note: a special Assignment 1 sub-forum has been established for this assignment so that all contributions can be seen in the same area of the forum. It will also avoid

“clutter” with the more subject-related posts in the main subject forum.
Hint: It’s often easier to be “original” earlier, rather than closer to the due date for task 1.1.
Note: Your response may address each topic individually or provide a more holistic, integrated approach, if you feel that this will better explain your point of view.
Rationale
The aim of this assessment is to encourage early engagement with the subject and the literature, to understand the primary purpose, uses and concerns regarding

contemporary Project Management and stimulate research and build a foundation of project management basics ahead of Assignment 2.
Additionally, the assignment encourages sharing of ideas and examples of projects and experiences from the workplace and to connect with other students.
Marking criteria
Task 1 (5% or 5 marks): An appropriate, clear, original and timely commentary is required. This may be in any form (e.g. short essay, bullet points, anecdote, example

and comparison to theory and reality). The lecturer will add a comment to all primary posts and will provide feedback and opportunities for expansion of topics for

original posts, request additional information or suggest areas of further study, for example.
Task 2 (5% or 5 marks): A “fullsome” response to another students’ post.Your response may be an original response to a post or a continuation of a “conversation”

created by another students’ response. Regardless, the second post has to be “value-added”, be it through commentary, questions and ideas, linking of topics, for

example. The lecturer may, or may not, comment on task 2 posts unless more is required, or to extend the topic, or to respond to a question/idea, etc.
Students are encouraged to post more than one feedback post, and to continue “conversations” regarding projects and experience. The minimum requirement is the two

posts, one each for 1.1 and 1.2.
Failure to submit one or both tasks by the due date will earn 0%. Should a post be deemed insufficient by the lecturer, they will post a comment asking for more

information/clarification. Responding to that request will then meet requirements.

Whilst it’s not anticipated that students will earn less than the full 10% for their 2 posts, a lower mark of 5% may be awarded if the marker feels one of the

student’s posts specifically fails to meet an important criterion, such as not providing more information if requested, failure to post both parts or post after the

due date.
Criteria    Satisfactory (5% or 5 marks per task). Total 10% or 10 marks    Unsatisfactory (no marks)
Timeliness    Original forum post and reply completed before due date.    One or both posts not made by due date.
Thoughtful & creative forum posts    Original content, examples, within due date.    Cut & paste text or other resources, failure to post, past due date.
Refers to the topic and it’s concepts    Posts relate to subject topic/s listed in the schedule or advised by lecturer. Relevant, clear, good descriptions which provide

relevant information for the reader.    Vague, no added-value to content and posts bear little or no resemblance to the topic/s, unless consented to by the lecturer.
Includes workplace examples    Responsive, explores concept, respects posters point of view using a relevant example or examples from corporate practice. Ideally from

workplace experience, or from wider reading and research.
In the absence of workplace experience, often newspaper business articles and journals provide ideas for current topics and commentary.    Judgmental, insulting,

dismissive, the response doesn’t reflect on the content of the post being critiqued and/or questioned, nor provides meaningful workplace-related input.
Critique of other material doesn’t provide a counter point-of-view.
Marks will be posted to gradebook following the due date.
Presentation
Your submission will form two parts:
Part 1: In clear language and format, an original post to the dedicated assignment one sub-forum (task 1).
Part 2: In clear language and format, an original post as a detailed feedback, question or comment to another student post (task 2) on the same forum.
