Quantitative Research Methods

MNG03048 Quantitative Research Methods

Background
A policy analyst is hired by a large city hospital to investigate the association between the number of unauthorized days that employees are absent per year and the distance (in miles) between home and work for those employees. A sample of 10 employees was selected and the SPSS data file (absent.sav) shows distance (in miles) and the number of days absent for this sample of workers.
Instructions
Conduct a simple linear regression analysis to examine the relationship between ‘distance’ (the independent variable) and ‘days absent’ (the dependent variable). Using the SPSS data file, prepare a 1,500 report using the following structure:
? Purpose
? Method
? Results
? Discussion
? Recommendations
? Statistical Appendix.
Your report and statistical analysis needs to include the following key elements:
a. Provide a descriptive analysis of the two variables (e.g., mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum).
b. Develop a scatter diagram with ‘distance’ as the dependent variable (is there a relationship between these two variables)? Explain.
c. Develop an estimated regression equation that can be used to predict the ‘days absent’ and ‘distance’ in miles between home and work.
d. State the estimated regression equation and interpret the meaning of the slope coefficient.
e. Is there a statistically significant association between ‘distance’ and ‘days absent’? What is your conclusion?
f. Did the regression equation provide a good fit? Explain.
g. Using the estimated regression equation predict the number of days absent when distance is 5 miles.
h. Are there any outliers in your data set? Explain.
Your report must be submitted as a single file (maximum of 1500 words) with an appendix that contains the details of your statistical analyses.
