This assignment asks you to do an Internet assignment on reality television.
Discuss the following:
How have the production elements of reality TV shows influenced the production elements of non-reality TV programs, e.g., the reality-style testimonials as seen in The Office? Single camera shoots, etc.
How are cultural norms such as privacy and monogamy reconfigured by reality shows? Are new sets of standards being created? Do these shows have any influence at all?
Select any contemporary reality show listed in the “top ten” this week (or whatever week you do the assignment) and discuss why critics think the show is a hit.
What do critics contend is the future of reality TV? What will the new themes be? New twists on romance? Man vs. nature? Reimagined social experiments?
