To what traditions and religions is the novel the five people you meet in heaven by mitch albom indebted? That is, where do you find the influence of various religions’ visions of the afterlife in your novel? As you identify them, also try to acknowledge when each religion’s version was “discovered” — Are novelists being influenced more readily by ‘newer’ ideas of the afterlife or by far ‘older’ ideas? And where does each novelist, by the way in which he/she writes about his/her afterlife, stand on the controversy of afterlives being either created or discovered?
