Order Description

Using your Significant Clinical Issue from Week 2,Which was Diabetes. Describe the knowledge gap that research could fill. Identify the PICO(T) elements that might be found in a research question related to the problem.

Think about your practice as a registered nurse. What is clinical concern that you question? A key word for evidence based practice is “why?” This is the whole rationale or reason behind our practice. Good clinical practice has a scientific foundation; it’s not based on tradition or convenience.

Develop a PICOT on it and describe why there is a knowledge gap. You will need to find some statistics on the topic. If you can’t find any, that means there is definitely a knowledge gap!

EXAMPLE:

P: pregnant women who labor with pregnancy induced hypertension

I: none (Technically the “I’ is the patient’s characteristic. I chose to put the characteristic in the P: pregnancy induced hypertension.)

C: pregnant women who labor without pregnancy induced hypertension

O: length of first stage labor (in minutes)

T: none
