Responding to an Article

Read and write a persuasive response to the article on the homeless (as attached). The response must defend the homeless people.

-Paragraphs must vary in length.
-Discourse markers link paragraphs and sentences within paragraphs
-Adverb starts to introduce sentences
-Topic sentences are used to secure understanding of paragraphs
-Repetition of sections is used for effect
-Changes to paragraph are controlled: time, place, person, tense, theme
-One word or single sentence paragraphs are used for effect
-Paragraph order may be experimental (e.g. include repetition, references to other sections, etc.)

-Simple sentences are used to contrast with extended sentences
-Extended sentences are used with a range of clauses and phrases

-A range of adjectives
-A range of adverbs
-A range of persuasive devices are used effectively (pairs, instructions to the reader, rhetorical questions, anecdotes, the rule of 3, emotive language, metaphors, opinions, personal pronouns, statistics and exaggeration)
-Clauses and phrases build arguments in sentences
-A variety of high level vocabulary

-Semi colons link whole sentences
