future? What will help you to be a better consumer?
Introduction
This activity will give you an opportunity to share your knowledge and understanding on retail business and the
consumer. You will use the textbook, class materials, and information you have gained doing assignments. You will
prepare a 3-4 page paper.
The Task
• Review notes from class, the textbooks and assignments to answer these questions
• What have you learned about starting and managing a profitable retail business?
• Describe what you have learned about the different types of retailers, the different parts of retailing
operations, consumer behavior and merchandising?
• Identify ways a retailer can attract and keep customers?
• What impact has the Internet had on the retailing industry?
• What other retailing concepts did you find interesting and useful for you current or future employment?
Prepare a typed paper compare and contrast how this class helped you understand retail operations using the
questions above.
The Process
Brainstorm topics you feel should be covered in the paper
Research – review the textbook, lecture notes and assignments to find information and specific details describing
retail operations and how they impact the profitability of the business. Use the questions above in the task section
to organize the content of your paper. Prepare an outline or mind map to organize the information Type a research
style paper 2 – 4 pages in length. APA Style format:
o Use 1 inch margins
o Center and type the title with initial capital letters for each important word.
o Double-space the entire report
o Type a short title and page number in the header on all pages, flush with the right margin
o Indent paragraphs 1/2 inch.
