RFID

Concept

I have an idea for how the future of RFID would change the consumer experience and retail industries. I believe if RFID tags are attached to everything we buy at the stores, the retail stores can easily track their items and know when inventory is down without having to go on the shelves to count. The customers can easily check out without having to scan each items at check out and with an RFID enabled fridge at home, the customers fridge can generate a shopping list for them after recognizing the various items that usually present in the fridge as well as their expiry dates.

The Research

This research would try to see if the aforementioned concept is achievable. It would research all available RFID tags out there, recommend cheap and affordable ones to execute this project.

It would also determine whether the automatic checkout process is possible with existing RFID technology and if not, recommend further research to tackle the drawback. 

It would analyze the process in which a fridge would be able to communicate with RFID tags and accessing the information such as what product is in it and the product’s expiry date. 

Finally, the research would conclude whether this is possible with existing technology and recommend future research in aspects of the above concept that is not possible yet.
