Using the reading (attached) from Kenny, S. (2006) ‘The Role of the State’, as well as the other three below, Write a 1,500 word essay on neo-liberalism and the welfare state.
You may also use examples that we have discussed throughout the course such as cut backs to community services, refugees, border control, Centrelink etc to back up your argument.

READ the “Kenny article” (attached) from pages 135-143 (attached) and write the essay based on this article, and also based on the other three articles that I will attach below.

INTRO
Explain the Welfare State. The Welfare State being a concept of the Government in which the State plays a key role in protection and promotion of the economic and social wellbeing of its citizens.
Explain Neo Liberalism. (In the intro) add to your description about how they would argue that when they’re in power there would be lower taxes in Australia, but of course lower taxes means less funding for Community Services Organisations, so less Welfare for the people.
Body of the Essay – How would Neo Liberalism have criticized the Welfare State? And what problems does the welfare state face using neo-liberal economic and political forms?
(Neoliberalists are all about progression, competitiveness, and ambition) Find your answers in the four readings, and be sure to use APA referencing to reference the articles.
Next part of Essay – Talk about Privatisation (water/electricity/University fees – Big Corporations replace Government run Organisations) and how the loss of funding to programs reduces the abilities of these welfare groups/organisations to run anymore. Be sure to talk of Australian organisations (like DHS, Centrelink, Medicare etc etc.) Reference your information again APA style.
Conclude with an example of how Neoliberalism still criticises the Welfare State in Australia ie: cutbacks to Community Services Providers like Medicare (if Liberal get into government)
