Order Description

Short Paper Instructions:

Students will write a short, 750 word paper on a key concepts addressed in Module One of this unit. The paper should use original, empirical research articles provided for each topic to address the following question:

“How does gender shape our identity or social relations?”

The short paper should:

• Demonstrate an understanding of key concepts used (please note, this does not mean the insertion of a definition, but discussion and application of the concept in a way that shows your understanding. Aim to paraphrase as much as possible).
• Have a clear focus and manageable scope (i.e. it is not possible to discuss all of the ways that gender shapes identity or ethnicity shapes social relations so you will need to narrow your focus to be more specific. Focusing your response on the findings of 1 – 2 original research articles from the further reading list for your topic will help with this).
• Synthesise information on the topic towards making an argument.
• Show that you have engaged with sociological reading on the topic.
• Cite and reference (APA) at least four scholarly sources from the Further Reading list (See Readings Attachment) for your topic, including at least one original, empirical research article. Please note that you are not expected to undertake independent research for this paper but rather to demonstrate the depth of your engagement with unit materials.
• Indicate the word length at the end or on the cover sheet. The word count should not be more than 10% over or under the word limit – marks may be deducted if they are.
