self Assessment building on leadership concepts

self Assessment building on leadership concepts

Order Description

In no more than 1-2 pages please reflect on the following:
The last three pages of Peter Drucker’s book (pp. 222-224 on self-development) includes this quote:
“Effective self-development must proceed along two parallel streams. One is improvement – to do better what you already do reasonably well. The second is change – to do something different…”
What do you think Drucker means here, in the context of a manager’s self-development in the NFP world? How do you think the self-assessment we conducted at the beginning of the course relates to this theme?

Additional information
The following exercise will have you assess your organization, or one that you choose, in order to better understand its strengths and its weaknesses. The assignment has two parts.
1. Please use the self-assessment exercise on pages 19 to 22 in Edwards and Yankey, with the scoring grid on page 23.
1. Name (at least one) scored strengthsfrom the self-assessment Framework which you would like to develop.
2. Identify if there is a low-scoring area you would also like to develop.
3. Discuss what might be some tactics for pursuing these goals.
This assignment is for the purpose of sharing information and it need not be deeply analytical, nor should it run beyond two pages at most.
3. Share your results with your classmates and discuss what you have learned.

This assignment is due on or before the end of the module (please see the course schedule). If you are using the text or outside sources to support your written assignment you must document those sources which you quoted, paraphrased, or summarized. Please cite sources using the APA format, click on the following link for Diana Hacker’s Website on APA Formatting.

The results of this assignment can inform your use of the Edwards and Yankey text (which chapters are of most interest or use to you?), your course research project (what do you want to more learn about?) or your own career devleopment (which skill areas will you work on or look for opportunities to grow?) based upon your areas of greatest interest and/or need.

Since the process is entirely subjective, there is no comparison between the scores of one student and those of another. The score results do not need to be reported in any particular format but they should be clear and intelligible.

The Mission is preeminent in a nonprofit organization: everything else, including Leadership, Strategy, and management actions, are organized according to the Mission. At the same time the Mission must at times be flexible and responsive to changes in the organization’s market, customer base, and operating environment. We will read about and consider some organizations’ Missions.
Also in this module we will conduct a manager’s self-assessment utilizing the Competing Values Framework in the Edwards and Yankey textbook. This is a subjective tool that seeks to measure one’s skill in a variety of managerial roles, which are divided into four skill categories: Human Relations Skills, Boundary Spanning Skills, Directing Skills, and Coordinating Skills. There is no high or low score and the self-assessment should be fun and enlightening!
For example, some students find that they score lower than expected in a particular role in which they have had considerable experience. This may be because the student has assumed that this role has been mastered and so is no longer a priority concern. A higher than expected score in a skill area may indicate an aptitude or ability that has not had a chance to be adequately exercised in the workplace.
The self-assessment exercise is for the student’s personal use in determining priorities for study and improvement, as well as determining areas in which delegation may be advisable. It might be valuable in your career and it might also guide your emphasis in your reading or research project in this course. It is not for comparison among students. It is a fun way to start the course and provide a personal baseline for reflection as we consider the various aspects of Nonprofit management.
