Order Description

The Short Report requires you to (1) analyse media coverage of crime and (2) compare, in brief, how a particular crime is portrayed in the media with information that you can obtain from criminological statistics and other academic articles by criminologists.

1. Name the media report that you are analysing, giving the date it was published or broadcast.
2. How does your case study explain why the crime occurred?
3. How common is the kind of crime described in the article? Apart from discovering what the journalist says, you will also need to do some research. You should look at the WA Crime Prevention Community profiles, Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (New South Wales), Office of Crime Statistics and Research (South Australia), and the Australian Institute of Criminology websites listed in the readings and cite any relevant material listed there.
