Write an introduction introducinng the short story by Ambrose Bierceand the film directed by Robert Enrico
Order Description
First, view the film “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.” You can acquire it online through the RCC Library. It is part of the Films on Demand collection. It also used
to be a Twilight Zone episode. It has a realistic sound track and includes the song “A Livin’ Man.” If the version you watch is not like that, you do not have the
correct version.
Then submit an essay to the Drop Box responding to the following questions:
Write an introduction introducinng the short story by Ambrose Bierce (Use quotation marks for the short story.) and the film directed by Robert Enrico (Use underlining
or italics for the film.).
What changes have been made in the transition from the literary format to the film? That is, what does the reader get out of the short story that cannot be gotten out
of the film? What details are changed or added in the film to make up for what is lost in the transition from short story to film? Be specific.
Obviously, section two is missing from the film. Is that an important omission? It is necessary to the short story? Is the film better without it or would it be better
if it had been added? The film does present some of the informaiton from section two. What is it? Is it adequate?
Finally, considering the of the differences, are you more sympathetic to the protagonist in the short story or in the film? Why?
A good essay responding to these issues will be between 500 and 800 words. Include an introduction and a conclusion. Write a formal essay. By “formal” I mean attending
to the following:
1) Avoid “you” when you mean readers, yourself, or people generally. “We” is a reasonable substitute.
2) Write out contractions.
3) Omit “I feel that,” “I believe that,” and “in my opinion.” Instead, assert your opinions as though they were facts, supporting them with sufficient evidence from
the short story or the film so that any reasonable reader would agree with you.
You will be graded on focus, organization, development, sentence structure, and mechanics, so this is an essay, not a response to questions on an essay test.
