Smart thinking

The authors argue that a teacher can help students, but the student “must do the learning.” What do you think of this idea? How do you see your role as a student with respect to your instructor? What role does a teacher play in learning? Is there a cultural component to this attitude—that is, how does the role of a teacher vary in different cultures you know about?
