Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world. The EWB Challenge offers projects in a
number of areas that have been identified as key areas for improving the well-being of
communities in Nepal. In order to provide effective solutions for problems in these areas, it
is important for engineers to understand the history and culture of the people they are
working with. In particular, it is important to understand the injustices that outside (and
internal) agents may have caused in the past, so that these mistakes are not repeated in the
future.
Write an essay about one or more Social Justice issues associated with at least one of the
project topics in the 2014 EWB Challenge in Nepal.
The Task
Your essay should claim a link between one or more social justice issues and at least one
of the Challenge projects. You essay should support this claim with relevant arguments
backed by examples taken from suitable academic reference sources, including sources
provided by EWB.
Some questions that may be addressed in your essay are:

What social justice issue(s) apply to the chosen project?

Do the injustices still exist?

Who are the people who suffer most from the injustice; who are the beneficiaries

of this injustice?
What are the root causes of the injustice?
Are the causes of the injustice deliberate (such as repression of minority groups)
