Social media's influence on modern library environment

Order Description

This assignment asks you to identify resources relevant to your research paper topic and to provide an introduction to the topic and annotations of sources you may employ in writing your research paper. This assignment is designed to promote increased awareness of the scholarly literature relevant to your paper topic and to help you to clarify the issues you wish to explore in your research paper. This assignment will also provide you with experience in selecting, evaluating, and articulating the significance of scholarly sources for use in your own writing. The Annotated Bibliography contributes to Student Learning Outcomes 3, 6, and 8 for LIBR 200.

What is an annotated bibliography?

A bibliography is a list of citations to books, book chapters, encyclopedia articles, journal articles, and other resources relevant to your topic (a list of Web sites and other Web-based resources is sometimes called a Webliography). In an annotated bibliography, each citation is followed by a brief descriptive and evaluative paragraph: the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to provide a cogent summary of the significant points in the item cited (relevant to the topic) and to inform the reader of the relevance, authority, accuracy, and quality of the source cited. If the reader is interested in your topic, why would he or she be interested in the items you have cited, and how does each item relate to other items on the list (if at all)?

Components of the annotated bibliography

The annotated bibliography should begin with an introduction to your topic. The introduction may be 2-3 paragraphs in length, and should: 1) identify the scope and focus of your bibliography; 2) identify any decisions you have made that have helped to define the items selected for inclusion (e.g., date range); and 3) articulate the significance of the topic to your reader. Since this annotated bibliography is being composed as a first step toward your research paper, the topic should be relevant to the issues raised in this course, and you may assume that your reader is interested in foundational issues in Library and Information Science.

1) Introduction ? does your bibliography include a brief summary of the topic, its relationship to your proposed research paper topic, and any guidelines used for selecting material for inclusion?

2) Number of Citations ? does your bibliography include at least 10 annotated sources?

3) Type of Citations ? does your bibliography include a majority (6+; or 50%+, if more than 10 items listed) of sources taken from scholarly sources, including journal articles, book chapters, books, or reference works (e.g., encyclopedia articles of a scholarly nature)?

4) Evaluation ? do your annotations include a summary of the main points of the items annotated, evaluative statements regarding the authority of the author and the significance of the items annotated for your proposed research paper topic of study, and statements comparing individual items with others items cited?

5) Mechanics – did you use appropriate APA style to include a complete citation for every item on the bibliography?
