Essay Overview For your Final Essay, you will compose a 5-page, rhetorical analysis of at least one reading from The Norton Reader, which is due in class during our

final exam.
Your essay should take a detailed, insightful, position on one of the sociocultural topics examined in this anthology. Explain why your topic matters to you and why

your reader should feel the same way. Since you have the benefit of revision, you should expect to produce a mechanically sound and stylistic paper, one that clearly

presents a thoughtful and creative position.
As our final essay of the quarter, you should consider this essay as a cumulative representation of your writing abilities to date, showing competency and improvement

in each of the writing elements that we covered in class.
Prompt Follow the steps below to write your essay:
1. Choose one reading from The Norton Reader as your primary text, and identify the main sociocultural topic or issue that it covers.
2. Develop an original, insightful argument that responds directly to the primary text. Take a distinct position that not only analyzes the implications of the

writer’s thesis but also includes your own perspective.
3. Support your argument by citing a minimum of two outside sources that provide examples, counter-arguments, factual evidence, or illustrations pertinent to your

essay.
Works Cited In addition to your primary text, please choose at least two outside sources that in some way support an argument of your design. Your sources might

provide additional evidence to support your thesis, illustrate a specific point you have presented, or address the viewpoint of another writer you wish to agree with

or argue against.
Overall, you should expect to synthesize the information from all of your works cited into one arguable position that you clearly state, support, and promote.
Cite your sources parenthetically in your essay, and then attach a Works Cited page as a separate page at the end of your essay. A detailed annotated example of a

Works Cited page has been posted to Etudes.
