Question: Are African Americans represented in a negative way on Television?

Reality Television attempt to portray the lives of “real people”, however, their realities seem to be more dramatic than the usual person.

In this paper assignment you will develop a research question and conduct a content
analysis of media representations.
Content analysis is a statistical exercise that involves categorizing some aspect or
quality of people’s behavior and counting the number of times such behavior
appears. You might examine media representations of gender, of race, of age, or of
ability.
Let’s imagine you are interested in how the media represents gender. A simple
content analysis might involve counting the number of minutes men and women
appear during an episode of a particular program. You might count the number of
times a woman is referred to as a “bitch” in the lyrics of a well-known artist. You
should collect data on two different sources so that you may compare them. Your
data collection would look something like this.
