Strategic document review

Introduction
Students are to select and evaluate a current strategic plan produced by a governing body of sport (e.g. RFU), sport relevant organisation (e.g. Sport England) or an organisation involved with sport (e.g. a local authority). For a plan to be considered as ‘current’ it must not have expired, so anything which finished before 2015 will not be acceptable.
Task
For the chosen strategy document, critically evaluate its value for maintaining the future viability of the sport organisation, or the sport itself.
This evaluation should consider some of the following elements:
• Its consideration to the external business environment and how this has, or will affect its current or future success.
• The extent it has used an appropriate and relevant language of the management of change.
• Any data, research or findings which help critique both sport policy and strategies in general, or for the specific document chosen.
• The value of its performance criteria for the policy or strategies.
• A clear evaluation of its fitness for purpose in the future.

Assessment Format and Weighting
This is an individual piece of work and must be presented in an essay format.
It must not exceed 3000 words (including appendices). The tutor will stop marking at this point and will not consider any other materials or words in the award of the grade.

It represents 75% of the marks available for this module.

Marking Criteria
The assignment will be based on the following key marking criteria:
• Depth of analysis of the wider external business environment in which the selected document is embedded in.
• Use of literature and data to support the arguments and analysis.
• Application of relevant theory/concepts to aid in the analysis.
• Quality of discussion.
• Presentation.
