Overview

Background
Your group is the new Network Management Team for TechCorp, a public company that has recently expanded its operations by buying out a competitor, SecCorp. The two computer networks of TechCorp and SecCorp need to be merged to allow users access to corporate information from both organisations. Current network details are:
•    TechCorp has 500 users while SecCorp has 100 users.
•    TechCorp and SecCorp are located 40km apart.
•    Both companies utilise Windows Server domain controllers, though SecCorp’s version is older than TechCorp’s.
•    Both companies have a mix of WinXP and Win7 workstations.

In addition, the only standardised Network Management documentation is a very old “Fault Report Log Sheet” template (sample included in Table 1 below). This is inadequate and does not link to any other areas of the Network Management protocol.

Tasks
1. Your first task is to develop a report on network management strategy (One strategy) to merge the diverse corporate network infrastructure with specific examples for TechCorp’s expanded operations.

You need to define the strategy (One strategy)  and justify their suitability for merging the two networks.
You should also include a high-level options analysis that summarises your strategy (One strategy)  :
? showing the order of preference
? And indicating the advantages and disadvantages of each strategic option (see Table 2 for an example layout). Each advantage or disadvantage should be backed up with supporting facts.

2. Your second task is to update the network management documentation by developing new templates to capture further information to support the growing network management requirements. These templates will eventually be incorporated into a database for data entry and reporting. You need to develop the fields of information that should be collected. Each template should include:
? Supporting documentation to explain the origins, purpose and use of each of the templates;
? A sample of the data that would be recorded in the template.
? As well as a guideline as to which Network Management areas have been covered by each template.

IMPORTANT:
It is anticipated that each team member will be responsible for:
? at least one key strategic recommendation
? and at least one template and its supporting documentation.

As part of your submission:
? you are required to identify who is responsible for each area of your project, as there will be an individual component to the overall project mark.
? You should also ensure that the project is consistent in presentation.

Marking
? The mark for this project is divided into two major divisions.
? The first division of 10% will be awarded to the group. The focus of this marking is on the cohesiveness and presentation of the complete report.
? The second 15% will be awarded to individuals within the group. The focus of this is on each individual’s contribution, the depth of their analysis and development of their arguments and justification.
