Identifying Sponsors and Finding a Match

Just as your idea has to be a match for your organization’s strategic plan, so too, the problem that your idea is a solution to has to match the problems the sponsor wants to fund and the population they want to assist.

We will be working on step four of the six-step grant-seeking process in the module.

Grant Seeking Process: A Six Step Process Guide

Identifying or recognizing a societal, organizational, or community problem.
Generating an idea, project, or program to solve the problem.
Determining if the idea (your proposal solution) furthers the mission and goals of your organization.
Researching potential sponsors to find a match between your idea and what sponsor wants to fund.
Designing, writing, and submitting a proposal that follows the sponsor’s guidelines.
Getting funded so that you can implement your solution to solve the problem and benefit the target population.
Here is a nine-step process to help get you started:

Define the problem/need for funding.
Brainstorm for keywords.
Ask colleagues about possible funding sources (be sure you contact your organization, they may already have a grant they are interested in).
Define Web search goals.
Set up a search strategy plan.
