Summative assessment scenario

UNIT 3 2 PAGES LONG CONTINUATION FROM UNIT 1 # 210232 AND UNIT 2 # 210594 Summative assessments have been the standard of assessment for many years. Some believe these methods to be tried and true, while others believe them to be outdated and not particularly useful to assess student learning. However, your faculty needs to have some familiar ground to work on if they are going to change. Additionally, as discussed, it isn’t so much the assessment itself that makes it summative (although there are some that lend themselves to be more summative), but how it is used. Section V: Summative Assessment Scenario You have been assigned the task of creating a summative assessment assignment to present to your faculty so that can have a clear understanding and example of a summative assessment. The assessment must meet the following criteria: Must be an online activity (this means that the entire activity must be completed in the online environment. No part can be facetoface). Must serve as a summative assessment. Must have a detailed assessment tool to evaluate it. Must be a lesson that would be appropriate for an undergraduate or graduate level course. Describe your summative activity and assessment approach and discuss why you feel the assignment is summative in nature. Provide a higher ordered rationale as to why you feel your lesson would prove beneficial to your students as a summative assessment. Describe in detail what the assignment is intended to measure. Describe the assessment tool you will use to provide students with feedback, and discuss why you opted for that specific assessment tool. After you have described your summative assessment approach discuss the overall effectiveness of the summative assessment approaches as presented. Consider the following in your exchanges: What are the benefits to students? What are the challenges and benefits to faculty? What challenges did you face in creating your lesson and how did you overcome those challenges? How can online teaching technologies be used to address some of these challenges? UNIT 4CONTINUATION FROM UNIT 1,2,3 2 PAGES LONG For this UNIT 4, you will continue working on your Final Project. As you write this, continue to assume the position of the department chair, and write in that voice. In this UNIT, you will present effective online assessment strategies to your faculty. Remember, you are presenting a proposal to your faculty, and your faculty is skeptical of online learning in general, and of effective assessment in particular. Instructions Section VI: Assessment Planning Palloff and Pratt (2009) discuss principles of effective online assessment. You are going to create an example assessment plan for a 100level (undergraduate) general education course (it could be English, Science, Art, Math, etc.). Assume your semester has 1000 total points, and is a 15 week course. Remember, this is an online course. Keeping Palloff and Prattâs principles in mind, create a hypothetical assessment plan for the semester. This plan will have two parts: Theory Practice For the theory section, FIND OR GOOGLE concepts OF Palloff and Pratt, and why they are important to online assessment. For the practice, create a plan based on 1000 points and 15 weeks. You can present this plan in the form of a chart. Conclude with justifications for your assessment choices. This Assignment addresses the following unit learning outcomes: Develop effective strategies for assessing interaction and collaboration in an online learning activity. Design a guide of best practices for assessment in the online environment. Design online assessments. It also addresses the following course outcomes: Compare major methods of assessments specific to online teaching and learning. Describe the technology employed for assessments in the online environment. Propose strategies and techniques to effectively assess student learning in the online environment. UNIT 5 4 PAGES LONG CONTINUATION FROM UNIT 1,2,3,4 For this UNIT 5 you will continue working on your Final Project. As you write this, continue to assume the position of the department chair, and write in that voice. In this wiki, you will discuss the importance of objectives and the alignment of assessments to objectives. Instructions Post the following topics for your project to the Unit 5 Section VII: Formative Assessment Section VIII: Technology You will create an example of a formative assessment using technology. This should be a different assessment than you have used in any PARTS OF UNIT 1,2,3,4 First, think of your learning objective and what knowledge, skill or performance you are really testing, meaning, make sure your assessment and objective align. State your learning objective. State your assessment. State the technology with which you will create the assessment. Describe the assessment. Create an example of the assessment and
