the application of Christian doctrine to business issues; (b) ethical foundations for business leadership; (c) exegesis of biblical texts in the context of business ethics and/or economics; and (d) a Christian approach to a specific ethical issue pertaining to capitalism or economic justice.

Term Paper;(a) the application of Christian doctrine to business issues; (b) ethical foundations for business leadership; (c) exegesis of biblical texts in the context of business ethics and/or economics; and (d) a Christian approach to a specific ethical issue pertaining to capitalism or economic justice.

Choose a topic pertaining to this class; develop a thesis, and write an original research paper which develops your thesis and arrives at an edifying conclusion. The paper will be graded on clarity of writing, cogency of thought, originality, and thoughtful application of biblical principles. Suggested themes include (a) the application of Christian doctrine to business issues; (b) ethical foundations for business leadership; (c) exegesis of biblical texts in the context of business ethics and/or economics; and (d) a Christian approach to a specific ethical issue pertaining to capitalism or economic justice.

You will submit an abstract of your term paper idea for review (due October 31). This abstract will not be graded, but I will give you feedback on your project. You are invited to submit this earlier and to discuss it with me anytime. Most students find this feedback very helpful early on, because the tendency is to attempt too broad a thesis. You must select a narrowly focused topic to do well with such a short research paper.

In the past, students have written strong papers by one of these methods:
• Select a biblical text and exegete the passage (that means, draw out its meaning & message) in the context of business leadership. Study commentaries and other works, and reference them in your paper. I will be happy to provide guidance on selecting appropriate commentaries and resources.
• Choose a classic work of Christian spirituality or ethics, and apply it to a contemporary business ethics issue. A suggested list of works is given below in the bibliography. You may choose another text with my approval. Your topic must have something to do with faith/spirituality and business.
• Choose an author of business ethics and apply his/her teaching to a contemporary business ethics issue, which you analyze from the perspective of Christian faith or another faith. A suggested list of works is given below in the bibliography. You may choose another text with my approval.
