The arab spring/ democracy in the middle east

I would like the paper to illustrate understanding on the learning objectives.

1.    To reconsider the theories of modernization and democratization by introducing the role of Islam in particular and religion in general
2.    To examine the political, social, and economic dynamics in different regions dominated by Muslim States (Middle East and Asia)
3.    To delve into key issues and ideas unique to each Muslim-majority Nation-State or Islamic movement
4.    To study the role of Islamism in domestic governance
5.    To assess the prospects for peace and war in the respective regions based on the “Islamic” factor

A thesis along the lines of:

“While the current situation in the middle east (the arab spring) does not show a cultural change, but simply political. Is this real social progress towards democracy or simply a new face to old policies. ie womans rights, secular or non secular states etc.”
