Briefing for assignment

For this task you will need to submit a 3000 word report on the academic literature on a chosen topic.
The LER has three objectives.

Firstly, you need to provide the reader with an overview of the state of academic knowledge on the subject- based on your reading of the literature, what do we know about it?

Secondly, you need to identify the ongoing debates in relation to that topic- what are the key questions and areas of discussion?

Finally, you should identify areas for further research- where are the weaknesses in the literature that we need to build on?

Understanding
Does the assignment demonstrate a clear understanding of the selected topic developed through reading?

Analytical skills
Does the assignment rationally and coherently identify differences, strengths and weaknesses of different sources, and draw reasoned conclusions?

Academic procedure
Is the assignment thoroughly and properly referenced using good quality, appropriate journal sources?

Mechanical Soundness
Is the assignment well structured, presenting the work in a logical and coherent manner? This criterion also includes spelling, grammar and punctuation.
