The Yellow Wallpaper & Death By Landscape

Offer an interpretation of the stories below (essentially your description of what the story “is saying to us” and how it is doing it). All ideas, topics and approaches are open to you. You can do a comparative analysis of two authors: how they treat the same theme or question or use a particular symbol and what these characterizations mean to the messages of the stories. or you might examine how a single author discusses a particular theme. remember that inclusion of textual evidence (lines from the story that demonstrate your claim) is important to show the reader where you are coming from.

Gilman and Margaret Atwood – Compare “The Yellow Wall-Paper” with “Death By Landscape.” What similarities and differences do you see in the stories, in the depiction and psychologies of the two main characters (the “wife” and Lois)? How would you compare the endings of the stories (here, you might relate the “escape/liberation” question to Atwood’s story)?
