Adair Catering
Mr. Adair operates a catering company that does only off-premise catering.  The level of business varies widely so he employs only a few full-time employees.  The majority of staff members are on-call employees who work when needed.  Most have other jobs and many of them have other full-time jobs.
Today has been a very bad day.   Two dishwashers and one driver did not show-up for work. One lead cook came to work drunk and had to be sent home. Mr. Adair has pots and pans stacking up. He has deliveries that need to be made.  He needs to closely monitor three full-service lunches in three different locations because a number of the on-call leads and servers could not work today.  The full-time employers of those staff are also experiencing extremely high volume and they are working at those jobs.
There is a bright spot in the morning.  One of the current dishwashers, Ray, has a friend who can both wash dishes and has a chauffeur’s license, so he can drive the company trucks. Ray has worked for Mr. Adair for a year and has been a very dependable worker. His recommendation of this new person carries a lot of weight.
Ray calls Joe, who arrives thirty minutes later to meet with Mr. Adair. Joe is clean and neat, in fact, his shirt and pants are pressed. Joe assures Mr. Adair that he would really like a chance to work for him. Mr. Adair checks his driver’s license, which is a current chauffeur’s license. When asked when he can start, Joe says “Immediately.” Mr. Adair hires Joe and gives him the keys to the delivery truck along with instructions for the deliveries. He tells Joe that when he gets back, he is to help Ray with pots and pans and other kitchen cleaning duties. Mr. Adair tells Joe they will discuss his potential status as a full-time staff member tomorrow.
The next day Mr. Adair tells Joe that he is very pleased with his work and he would like to take him on as a full-time employee as a combination driver/dishwasher. Joe accepts, and he is added to the payroll. Joe’s work is exemplary, and he is able to handle the deliveries without any problem.
Two weeks later Joe does not show up for work. Mr. Adair asks Ray if he knows why
Joe did not show up for work.  Ray says that Joe is in jail. Mr. Adair asks why he is in jail, and Ray says for driving without a license and forgery. Mr. Adair says, “Driving without a license! But he had a chauffeur’s license. I saw the license.” Ray says, “That’s why they are also charging him with forgery. Apparently the license was a fake.”
