To what degree is citizenship in the 21st century still a territorially-bounded concept?

You should have a minimum of 6 relevant scholarly references. Your essay should reference relevant required readings from the Weekly Modules in iLearn as well as academic sources from wider reading.

Essay Topics (choose 2 topics and write a 1200 word essay on each)

1. According to Rainer Baubock (2007) one classification of 21st century transnational citizenship is “multiple nationalities”. How does this phenomenon challenge traditional concepts and practices of citizenship?

2. Should Huntington’s 1993 premise that there will be a “clash of civilisations” in the 21st century matter in the discourse on citizenship? Explain your position in reference to transnational and post-national citizenship theories.

3. To what degree is citizenship in the 21st century still a territorially-bounded concept?

4. Analyse the differences in the concepts of nationality and citizenship.

Please address the two topics listed on page 2 in 2 research essays each with a 1200 word limit. The essays will be assessed according to:

 ability to address the topic/question

 coherency of argument

 organisation of argument

 quality and relevance of supporting evidence/references

 formal writing skills (clarity of expression, spelling, grammar, formatting, appropriate and consistent referencing style).
