Multiplying meaning: Visual and verbal semiotics in scientific texts ##### And add 5 or more resources ###### Guides to writing analytical report are the following : ##### What is the structure of an analytical report? An analytical report is divided into a number of sections, as follows: ï· Introduction ï· Body ï· Conclusion ï· Bibliography or reference list Introduction: The introduction to a report is similar to the introduction to an essay. In general it should: ï· introduce the topic and provide background which puts the topic in a broader context (eg role of visuals in science) ï· indicate the purpose and audience of the text ï· indicate the significance of the topic, explaining in general terms why it is useful ï· identify the texts to be analysed and the features on which the analysis will focus Body of the report: ï· The body of the report is divided into sections and subsections. Each section deals with a particular feature, which is indicated by a heading. ï· Each section and subsection are named and numbered. Analytic reports (like most reports except research reports) use content heading which reflect the content of the section. The term âbodyâ or âbody of the reportâ is never used as a heading or a subheading. ï· Your discussion of each feature must be related to the readings on that feature. So, for example, if you are discussing the use of tables and graphs, you need to indicate how these are used in the resource you are analysing and relate your analysis to the literature on the use of tables and graphs in science. Conclusion Your conclusion will take the form of a generalisation about the suitability of the text or resource being evaluated for its designated audience. Bibliography or reference list: ï· A bibliography is a list of all the sources you have consulted in preparing your assignment, whether or not you have actually cited them in your report. ï· A reference list includes only those works that you have actually cited in your report. ï· I do not mind which you supply, but it should include full details of sources arranged in alphabetical order by authorâs family name. Entries should not be numbered
