1. You are advising the next president of the U.S. on his or her top policy agenda. This is a briefing memo that may change the course of our politics, economy and society.

2. The opening section of your memo should identify, define, and explain the interrelated economic, environmental and energy challenges facing the U.S. and the world.

3. Next, identify and explain some political obstacles facing our ability to effectively address these problems. You must examine dependency corruption as an obstacle and explain they ways it affects how government operates.  Suggest a strategy for leading the country through specific reforms that you deem helpful for reducing this corruption.

4. In the final section propose a set of broad goals and specific policy solutions that would result in a more sustainable economy (note: the opening section of the memo analyzes the problem, and this section outlines the solutions). Why did you choose these goals or policy solutions? How will they solve the problems identified in the first section? What measures or standards do you recommend to supplement or replace the current focus on growth and GDP?

5. Conclude with advice about how to use PR (public relation) to generate public support for this course of action, including ways to rethink the role of government, explaining new economic investment policies, managing the consumer economy, and making the transition to a more prosperous economy and society. Would you create a new brand? Would you modify Brand America? How would you address conflict? This conclusion draws on readings, materials, and concepts presented from the first half of the quarter.
