OUTLINE OF TOPIC:

In the communication and multimedia era, the Internet and social platforms are affecting the development of short films. To compare with writing, voice and photo, film has its unique advantage in mixing different communicating elements. This dissertation is a study on the application of micro-cinema in the multimedia era.

Brief Introduction to the Topic:

In the multimedia era, the “micro-cinema” is sweeping every video hosting website and social platform. The rise of YouTube and other large video hosting websites has led to a flourishing of micro-cinema videos. In China mainland, there are about 500 million Internet users in the present; about 375 million of them watch videos online regularly. Compared with text, sound and still images, video has its unique advantages in transmitting information. Major video hosting websites are launching their own micro-cinema projects and creating new business models to explore the huge market potential. The “micro-cinema” is also changing the way people engage with society just as it is changing all aspects of our lives. People no longer need to be professionally geared to make a film, they are encouraged to direct their everyday life and share their thoughts with uploading short records. This dissertation investigates the development of micro-cinema, its influence in the era of multimedia, and its contribution to the progress of civilization.
