Remember that analysis is the practice by which we break something doing into its constituent parts in order to determine why and how that something works. So be sure that you’re not just describing your topic but also offering some explanation of its inner workings (i.e. process, cause and effect, etc). Strategies to work on Practice 1) invention (finding a focus, generating & organizing ideas, clarifying a purpose) 2) critical thinking 3) choosing and presenting facts that best support your inferences 4) research methods 5) summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting 6) revision strategies . Criteria for grade 1) adequate information on your topic of choice 2) depth of analysis 3) coherence and organization 4) correct integration of at least THREE outside sources in your essay 5) style and voice 6) grammar and punctuation 7) timely completion of freewriting and revision work Format: MLA (see http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/557/01/).
