The paper topics are open. You will develop an original short research paper based around the analysis of a film or media text or cultural and historical event or issue that relates to the topic of the course. Your approach to the analysis of this text is open, but you should make sure that you develop your paper from your thesis and use media or cultural texts to support your claims. You should use at least one outside source—a scholarly critical article or analysis–for your paper and there is no limit to the number you may use. Once you identify a thesis or topic, you might explore some of the relevant work on the same topic as a point of departure for your own analysis. For example, if you discuss immigration, what are a few of the major debates? Or with representation of Latinos, what are some of the arguments, debates around representation of Latinos? Finally, what is your conclusion and why? Make sure you have illustrated the main issues or points of your thesis.
