Understanding and Remembering
1. Pre-Chapter Entry: May 20th, 2013
I know that there are many ways to learn new ideas and concepts. I’ve taken anatomy so I know a few things about how the brain works when it comes to the learning system. People learn in different ways, therefore there is no wrong way to learn. Learning usually consists of time and effort in which one should be concentrated on what one is trying to learn.

I have learned new terms that deal with how the brain and the learning works. I learned how neurons work and how they transmit information through their axons and dendrites. I think it’s cool that the brain learns by comparing the new knowledge to existing connections it has already made. I think this is extra important because I work at a daycare center, so now I want to give the kids I take care of a taste of everything so they start to build lots of schemata. That way, in the future, their learning will be easier and they will be better prepared to succeed in this competitive world. I also thought it was interesting that concepts related to emotion are more likely to ‘stick’ than just straight unrelated facts. This makes total sense to me because I am a very emotional person and I already know that if I feel strongly about something I am going to remember it
