Using Gorman’s exegetical steps (see also his examples in Appendix B – esp. 2 Cor. 12:1-10) make an exegetical study of Acts 17:16-34. Engage and compare the views of the different commentaries in their understanding of the verses and/or text unit. Make sure you argue your own position in the understanding of the text. For this essay, use not only the curriculum literature but also supplementary literature and other commentaries. Use at least 3 different commentaries.
Use Gorman’s book as a framework for your exegetical study. Not all the texts selected require the use of all the steps, the student has to use his/her own judgment to decide which steps. Parameters of Evaluation:
1) Clarity of Presentation (Introduction, body and conclusion) 20%
2) Clarity of Thought 20%
3) Content/Substance 60%
3.1. Comprehension of key issues/problems 20%
3.2. Ability to engage, analyze and criticize key issues/problems 20%
3.3. Argumentation – ability to support his/her point(s) of view(s) 20% more relevant for the text in hand.
When analysing your selected text, you should take into account Gorman’s exegetical steps (see Gorman’s book).

It is recommended that you use the following structure in your essay:
INTRODUCTION:
Mention what is the purpose of your assignment and the main points that you will be developing in the body of your assignment.

BODY:
These are some points that you should take into consideration when writing the body of your assignment:
1) Do not use “Body” as the title for this part of your essay but develop chapters and subchapters with the titles referring to the content of your discussion.
2) If possible, develop a line of thought throughout your subchapters that you may bring to a close in your conclusion.
CONCLUSION:
Recapitulate what was the purpose of this assignment and the conclusion(s) you arrived at in regards to the questions answered in the body of your assignment.
