Using Massey and Denton’s research on residential segregation leading to hyperghettos and hypersegregation and assimilation versus hypersegregation, what are the urban ghettos in your city?

- Discuss crime in your city using Sampson and Raudenbush’s argument that social structural factors rather than physical disorder lead to increased crime and note that perceptions of urban danger are often tied to the class and racial diversity of neighborhoods.
- Discuss shopping: Is the downtown area a commercial and shopping area or have downtown neighborhood stores closed/downsized after the rise of malls and of “category busters” or “big-box” stores such as Wal-Mart?
