Fieldwork activity 2: Diary of interaction with mobile media
• Keep a diary for a week of your interactions with a particular mobile media or your
choice (e.g. mobile phone, Palm Pilot, iPod, even a watch).
o Review your notes from the lecture and readings regarding mobile media.
o Formulate a research question.
-Make sure this is a phrased as a question!
-Be as specific as possible, and make sure your question is actually researchable. Be pragmatic in your goals.
o Describe your methodology.
-Again, be specific. Lay out the steps you will follow. Describe how
your use will differ from your normal use, if that is your aim.
Describe when, how and how often you will be making observations.
Explain what you will be looking for, or comparing. Provide any
other information that makes clear how you will accomplish your
aim.
o Describe your findings.
-Organize your findings in a clear and logical way to help your reader
digest your findings. Point out themes and patterns.
§ Make sure you present all your findings here, and do not leave
some for the analysis section, which should be devoted to analysis
alone.

-Pull back from your findings in order to draw conclusions about
broader sociological, psychological or cultural issues. What is the
significance of what you have found?
