2. Write a running record. Follow the guidelines on pp. 9-11 of (EHNRC. 2013).
3. Answer the instructor’s prompt questions. Refer to the readings.
a. Video A – The teacher was playing a call and response game with the infants. How would you explain this as curriculum? Describe in detail. What stages of language development were the children exhibiting (See Table 9.1, p. 186, Gonzalez-Mena, 2015)? Describe in detail.
b. Video B – What social skills are these children showing? The teacher does not seem to be taking an active role. What could be her intention? How is she (or is she not) promoting the girls’ social skills?Part 2-
“The teacher is at once a nurturer, a guide, a supporter, an encourager, an observer, a planner, a provider of new experiences, a safe lap, and a listener. The teacher helps the children feel that they are in a place that was made just for them.” (p. 27, CDE Press, 2006)
After doing the readings and watching the videos this week, your views of the role of the infant/toddler teacher may or may have changed. This week’s discussion board is an opportunity to reflect on the role of the teacher in the development and learning of infants and toddlers. Refer to your readings, especially Chapter 3 of (CDE Press, 2006)
How do you see the teacher’s role differently? What do this week’s materials tell you about how infants and toddlers learn communication and socialization?
What skills do you need to be an effective and intentional teacher of infants and toddlers?
What are your first steps in creating a “curriculum” for infants and toddlers? Explain your first two priorities in detail.
