Divide paper into 3 sections: 1. The first section must be called: MY SOCIAL ISSUE and discuss the social issue you are researching. First describe your social issue, how and when it became an issue, why you or others believe it is a social issue, what is being done to address the issue. 2. The second section must be called: MY SOCIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE and discuss your Sociological perspective as it is applied to society in general (not as it applies to your social issue). Here you must show me you understand your Sociological perspective and refer to at least 1 Sociologist who is associated with this perspective. For example in this section you would discuss how Functionalism sees society as if you were explaining it to someone who knew nothing of Sociology AND what a Functional theorist says about society.3. The third section must be called: APPLYING (your perspective) TO (your social issue). For example : APPLYING FUNCTIONALISM TO DRUG ADDICTION IN PALM BAY. Sociologists look not only at the behavior of individuals and groups but also at the structural systems that influence behavior. Writing in sociology demands that you take a sociological perspective that views human behavior as “mediated, shaped, channeled, and influenced by social relationships and social systems.”Here I want you to show me how your chosen perspective would view the social issue?; what it’s says are the causes/roots of this issue?; how it would evaluate (good & bad) the efforts to address the issue? According to your perspective are correctional remedies that are being applied to the issue effective, why or why not?… according to the perspective, not your personal beliefs. Finally what the perspective would recommend can/should be done to address the problem? For example many of the sentences should include “Functionalists would see this as….. Conflict perspective would say…… Symbolic Interactions would think….” You must show me you understand your social issue through the eyes of your perspective.
