Risk management may be used to prevent violence in the workplace. Using effective pre-engagement documents and conducting background checks provides essential information about the applicant. Secondly, policies on workplace violence should be established, including a zero-lenience position about threats, violence or abusive language. Workplace violence may also be prevented by conducting substance abuse testing, establishing effective procedures for investigating threats, training employees and supervisors and conducting audits to enhance security measures (Mathis & Jackson, 2011).
